The Ariège and Aude have some of France's wildest and most beautiful scenery. This region has some spectacular bird life, with some of Europe's rarest birds breading locally such as Lammergeier, Egyptian vuIture and wallcreeper. Bears and wolves roam the Pyrenees and even lynx have been spotted locally. It is also one of the finest sites in Europe for terrestrial orchids. Historic castles and wonderful walking country are on our doorstep and a host of other activities can be enjoyed.

Enjoy its cathedral and covered galleries which date back to the 13th and 14th centuries. Each Monday morning there is a large vibrant market. This area is steeped in history of the Cathars. Visit the Chateau of Montsegur, only 20 minutes drive away. The medieval citadel of Carcassonne is 40 minutes drive. The precipitous chateaux of Peyrepertuse, Queribus and Puilaurens are all possible on a day trip. Domaine Gayda is a lovely restaurant set in its own vineyard, just outside Limoux. Enjoy a weekend lunch on the terrace looking over the vines. Toulouse is a beautiful, bustling city and great place for a day out with its shops, food markets, museums, art galleries, churches and cathedrals. Nearby there is Le Cité de L'Espace, great from children and adults, and Taxiway where you can visit the Airbus A380 and Concorde. |
