Voted as one of the 'Top Five Castle Hotels in France'
Staying at one of France's spectacular castle hotels gives you the chance to imagine you're a king or queen for a day, as well as getting a sense of the country's rich history. Here, The Good Hotel Guide picks their top five castle hotels... Built originally as a Benedictine monastery and set in a castle in the fortified village of Camon, L'Abbaye-Chateau de Camon is beautifully restored, with an exquisite salon, 10 individually-decorated rooms (some of them former monks' cells) and a terrace running the length of the chateau which offers views of the landscaped gardens. The restaurant serves refined cuisine, and there's an outdoor pool.
While we knew we wanted something traditional with some rustic charm, we quickly learnt that French wedding criteria out for the entire weekend.isn’t the same. Camon had it all and meant we could hire the whole place...We wanted our guests to feel relaxed so while we were having our family photos taken they entertained themselves with games of croquet and cooled off sitting by the pool...Our photographer...was willing to travel up from Malaga for the weekend. His first words as he walked through the chateau doors: ‘my eyes are bleeding, it’s so beautiful’. Praise, indeed.
“A fairytale, a dream, a secret sensation. To call this ancient abbey a guesthouse is to undermine the other wordly drama of staying here..the creeper-strewn garden is a lovely place to eat, there’s a bright turquoise pool and one of the most gigantic magnolia trees you could imagine.”
Voted in the Tatler Travel Guide as one of the 101 best hotels in the world.
“...one of france’s loveliest hotels. A dream of columned courtyards, stone staircases and frescoed ceilings.”
Vogue, American Edition
“...half an hour from the city of Carcassonne the L’Abbaye-Chateau de Camon hotel has grand furnishings - think Venetian chandeliers, flagstoned floors and elaborate 18th century canvases on the walls. The exterior is no less impressive, with a beautiful garden, outdoor pool and fabulous views over the surrounding countryside”

“La tradition mystique et seigneuriale d’un monument de l’histoire du Sud-Ouest revisitée par un couple de Britanniques décontractés. Ou comment, à rebours du snobisme et du chic étoilé , se relaxer dans un palais sans se prendre pour de rois.” Maison Sud-Ouest
" A Magical Wedding Setting - My daughter and fiancé were married here last August. Katie and Peter are lovely hosts ... The guest rooms are all very different and we tried to match the rooms to our guests! Tom the chef, creates the most amazing dishes and all our guests loved the venue and the food. It was the relaxed, laid back wedding that the bride and groom had planned! ... It is a beautiful place and one that we will go back to now that we have found it. "
