PRESENTATION
In the heart of a rebellious and
sometimes violent Languedoc lies the château of Camon, a place
of peace and tranquility. Heir to a long monastic past, with the appearance
of a manorial fortress, Camon invites us to experience a subtle mixture
of history and architecture.
If the exterior impresses us with
both the majesty and severity of a fortified XVIth century palace, then
the XVIIIth century interiors bear witness to a magnificence which justifies
the power of the Abbey.
This beautiful location, where Aude
and Ariège meet, was chosen as the site for a Benedictine Abbey.
Legend has it that, in 778, Charlemagne,
back from a campaign against the Saracens, ordered that it be put under
the protection of Notre Dame.
